Apparently, as indicated to me in an email I just received from the Toronto Alliance of the Performing Arts, it's "World Theatre Day."

Oh.

Anyone else know about this?

Created in 1961 by the ITI. I guess.

How did you celebrate? I did laundry.

Do other cities put something together for this? Is Toronto just out of the loop? Or is it a big yawn all around? I'd like to know what the global take on World Theatre Day and the ITI is. I feel like it's worthless to have such a day if it's not even embraced by the community it purports to acknowledge.

We started back in on the creation/re-creation of minotaur this past weekend. It was great to have everyone back together again. So many ideas of where we can take this thing. We literally sat around for six hours discussing/arguing/agreeing on what we should do with this show. This portion of the work is essentially just going to be writing with some table work which, for this project, means this part mainly falls on the shoulders of Alison and Stanton. Then we’ll take the work that they’ve done and figure out how to stage it. “Staging the unstageable” is how Alison put I believe. It’s an exciting process but it scares the living hell out of me at the same time.

I remember the night we opened the first version of minotaur, Trish and I were backstage fighting the urge to throw-up cause we had no idea if anything we were about to do would fly and she looked at me and said “Why do we do this again?” I think my answer was “um…”

Well. We just unleashed our first-ever, super-colossal, electronic fundraising campaign.

(of note: I just made a typo above, and spelled "fundraining." Wouldn't that be somethin'? Hah hah? Ha. Hey?)

Because I am a completist and, evidently, an insomniac, I am including our little pitch here in Blogland as well.

And let me tell you - I was *this* close to calling the campaign "If you loved us you would."

Then I realized that I would probably be the only one on earth that found it funny.

Which is why we decided upon...

we love you.
we need you.

Since 2004, UnSpun Theatre has been creating entertaining, award-winning work that consistently challenges audiences and stretches the boundaries of the current English- Canadian theatre tradition.

Past works such as Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Thy Neighbour's Wife, Don't Wake Me, Minotaur, and The Tin Drum have been heralded as "marvelously executed," "striking," "compelling," and "full of dramatic magic."

UnSpun Theatre is also proud to play a key role in building the careers of emerging artists. Just take a look at our creative team. You'll see a group of fiercely talented up-and-comers. A new generation of theatre artists who are creating great work, and a lot of buzz.

However, making theatre ain't cheap. (Especially here at UnSpun, where the company creates innovative work requiring extensive rehearsal and gestation time.) It takes artists' time and it takes funding.

Some of our funding comes from grants and foundations. Some of it comes from ticket sales.

But a lot of our funding comes from individual donors who love live performance and want to see independent Canadian theatre thrive.

Wanna help UnSpun Theatre out?
You can. It's a breeze.

No gesture is too small. Every little bit helps to keep UnSpun spinning.

THANK YOU!
